World Cycling Race Championship Florence 21 - 29 September 2013

In 2013, the UCI Road World Championships will take place in the heart of Tuscany, filling a gap incycling’s history.
2013 will be the first time that this beautiful region of Italy hosts a road World Championships despitethe fact that it is steeped in cycling tradition and has produced some of the greatest cycling names ofall times.
PAT MC QUAID UCI PRESIDENT speech at Maastricht championship presentation:
"We can’t talk about the history of Tuscany’s cycling without mentioning the duo of Gino Bartali, andFiorenzo Magni. Bartali, prominent both sides of the second World War, was the biggest rival of thegreat Fausto Coppi.
I am delighted to return to Italy for the 2013 edition of the World Championships. The fact thatFlorence has been awarded these Championships for 2013 is a demonstration of the high esteem that cycling, and the UCI, has for Italy.
In September next year, we will enjoy top level cycling that will take us through some of the mostbeautiful cities and towns of the world, not least Florence and Lucca. It is an event not to be missedand I know that the Organising Committee will ensure, in true Italian style, a magnificent edition of the UCI Road World Championships.
